Maybe love is a strong word, but if John Legend and Chrissy Teigen were asked to describe the first day they met in the fewest words, their answer could be: burgers, sex, and video shoot. It’s widely known that the couple met in 2006 when they were matched in a very Hollywood-like way. The director of Legend’s “Stereo” video, Nabil Elderkin, was a mutual friend and suggested Teigen be Legend’s love interest. Talk about life imitating art.
“We spent the whole day dancing together, grinding together,” Legend told The Guardian in 2017, “And, uh, we made a music video.” True to form, Teigen told Cosmopolitan many more juicy details about the day a few years earlier. All of that grinding meant the two got close to each other very fast, bonding both on and off camera. “I’m not going to lie. We hooked up,” confessed the Sports Illustrated cover girl. Not before feasting on In-N-Out burgers.
But they didn’t get serious right away. “The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, then have them think, ‘There’s so much more out there,’” Teigen said, adding that she tried not to ask about the ultimate commitment. “Marriage was never my goal, because I’ve never been very traditional. I was just happy to be with him.” Using the word “happy” to describe Teigen and Legend’s relationship is quite the understatement… they need to be dating coaches in their spare time.
